Strataca/Kansas Underground Salt Museum is opening a new attraction on November 1 and it’s a true adventure. Called Salt Safari, it’s a two hour long hike into unexplored parts of the salt mine. These are areas not accessible any other way.
You must be 18 or older to go, and physically fit enough to hike for two hours on uneven ground into unlighted areas. In addition to seeing unexplored regions of the mine, you’ll also see artifacts left behind by miners over the years.
The first tour will go on November 1, so get your tickets now. It will be only once a week, at 1 p.m. on Fridays. Cost is $60 a person. Wear long pants and hiking shoes and be ready for an experience you can’t find anywhere else in the western hemisphere.
Strataca/Kansas Underground Salt Museum is at 3650 E. Avenue G. Open everyday except Monday, but the Salt Safari is only on Fridays at 1, beginning November 1. For tickets call (620) 662-1425. www.underkansas.org..
